Kerry Group Headquarters is based in Tralee, Co. Kerry and employs over 24,000 people worldwide.  The development involved the construction of substantial new build and major redevelopment consisting of a 3 storey entrance atrium, 2 storey canteen, 3 storey extension and complete internal refurbishment of Kerry Group Corporate Headquarters.  The works were carried out in two distinct phases with a minimum amount of overlapping at interface works.  Client operations had to be maintained for the duration of the works.

Bus Éireann depo in Tralee is a new state of the art fully accessible bus station in Tralee.  The station which is 450m2 in size is adjacent to Tralee railway station enabling customers to make seamless transfers between bus and rail facilities, promoting the objective if integrated transport provision.  Its contemporary design enhances the local urban environment and services for Bus Éireanns 1million customers in Kerry.  The two storey triangular shaped building is striking in design and includes:

• A high specification to facilitate access between lower and upper levels

• A light filled and streamlined waiting areas for customers

• A customer travel center and booking office

As part of the development the existing bus depot was redesigned to provide 8 bus bays to facilitate for more coaches and customer service.

Abbey Court retail units are a 1,500m2 development in Tralee Town Center.  The project involved large scale demolition work in close proximity to extremely busy areas.  Access to the site was restricted and a detailed traffic management plan was put in place.  All deliveries were scheduled to opportune times and guided into site with the aid of trained spotters.

 

Substructure work involved extensive secant pilling and raft construction base.  The superstructure consisted of steel portal frame and insitu concrete walls.  The external of the units were clad in a limestone dura cladding with light being provided by large structural glazing units.  The visual aspect of the site was maintained to the highest level due to its proximity to neighboring and operating retail units.

The Munster Council is a provincial council of the GAA.  It represents over 500 community based GAA clubs and approximately 200,000 volunteer members.  The development involved the construction of a new two storey split level structure comprising of 12,000 m2.  The external envelope consists of fibrous cement rainscreen cladding and flush frameless glazing to the upper level resting on granite stone cladding to the lower level. 

The project included new mechanical and electrical packages incorporating a number of sustainable energy features.  Due to challenging ground conditions a mixture of piling and deep excavations were required for the foundations.  New access roads, footpaths and 1,500m2 carpark were constructed as part of the development.

Dairygold retail unit is a 2,300m2 two storey retail unit situated in Ballincollig, Co. Cork.  The works involved 2 phases.

 

Phase 1

• Construct new concrete grain yard of 3,500m2 and retaining walls

• New weigh bridge and office areas

• Demolish existing mill

• Construct a temporary 750m2 store area

Dairygold continued to trade throughout phase 1 in the existing unit.  A detailed traffic management plan was implemented to achieve this.

 

Phase 2

• Griffin Brothers handed over phase 1 to the client

• Construction of 2,300m2 retail unit

• Portal steel frame and insitu concrete construction

• New entrance layout

• Realignment of Grange Terrace road

• Demolition of existing shop unit

 

All works were carried within a live environment.

The superstructure of the building is R.C columns and beams with insitu R.C. floors.  The external finishes are blockwork plastered including glazed curtain walling.

 

The interior fit out is to the highest of standards and incorporates raised access floors and demountable glazed office partitions in order for future office layout.

Kerry County Council offices is a low energy building featuring a geothermal heat pump for space heating, solar collectors for hot water, natural ventilation, energy efficient lighting, an energy management system and highly insulated building fabric.  The building is a 1,500m2 over 2 floors.

 

The main structure of the building is block construction with R.C columns and beams, insitu floors and structural steel for roof frame.  Internal works included full office fit out, glazed partitions, raised access floors.

 

The project also included substantial mechanical and electrical and lift installation together with associated ground works to accommodate 5,100m of underground geothermal coil.

Boherbue retail store project is an extensive agri and retail complex in Boherbue Village.  The project consisted of the construction of a prime retail site with multiple commercial units and hardstandings.

 

It involved the complete site clearance and demolition of existing buildings with a bulk excavation of 12,000m3.  As this site was adjacent to the main secondary route R577 Cork Kerry road a comprehensive traffic management system was put in place.  This was followed by the construction of a 3,000m2 building over 2 floors including full fit out.

 

As the client had its existing store in operation in close proximity, operations were maintained for the duration of the project.
